Jim + Ravyn Photographers

By Ravyn Stadick

As most of you know, my husband, Jim, is a huge part of my business. Not only does he carry all of my heavy bags, but he also makes about 1/2 of the beautiful images on my blog. He’s been my permanent 2nd shooter since the very first wedding we shot together, and we’ve had such a great time working together. As most businesses, we look at our business as an evolution. Things are changing as we go … which is a really good thing.

This weekend, we are officially launching our new wedding photography site: Jim + Ravyn Photographers. All things related to engagements, couples and weddings can now be found at www.jimandravyn.com.
This is a huge deal for us. We absolutely love working together, and creating our new brand and site has been so much fun.
Of course, I will still be updating my personal photography blog with portrait sessions, but all things wedding will be on the new site. If you get a chance, we would love it if you’d go check out our new site … There is lots of fun info about us, and of course, some fun images of our awesome clients. Our approach to wedding photography is that it should be fun, fresh and all about you!
I have to send a huge shout out to all of my 2010 brides. You girls have been my biggest advocates and best cheer leaders. I can’t even tell you the number of potential clients that email me because you referred them! I love that … Keep ‘em coming!
Jim and I are so excited that our business is growing and we can only imagine what the next year has in store. We would love it if you would bookmark our new site and check in from time to time.
We hope all of you are having a wonderful summer.
PS, We might be announcing a mini-session weekend soon! Be sure to check both blogs in the next week or so!

Here’s a sneak peek of a wedding that I second shot a few weeks ago. You can see the full post on the new blog!

Traders Point Creamery

By Ravyn Stadick

A few weeks ago, J and I went to a local, organic dairy farm, Traders Point Creamery. Even though we were only about 1/4 mile from the main road, it seemed like we were out in the middle of nowhere. I’ve never been to a working farm in my life, so it was pretty cool to experience an organic operation like theirs.

Once I saw the cows, I was in love.

This little baby was born just a day or so before our visit. So precious.

I love this photo.

After exploring the farm, we went to the Loft for lunch. The cheeses at the farm are soooo good, and this ice cream was the bomb. Yes, I just said that!

Road Trip:: Alabama

By Ravyn Stadick

J and I are spending the weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. We made the 8 hour drive yesterday and it was a blast. Besides my right arm getting sunburned (note to self: sunscreen is my friend), the drive was great. I still haven’t seen an armadillo, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Loving the Weird Things in Life

By Ravyn Stadick

Happy Monday! I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. Our weekend was awesome. After our camping trip was cancelled, we ended up spending some much needed time with each other. We went on a date on Friday night, had dinner with great friends on Saturday night and spent our Sunday boating and swimming. We took one last boat ride last night after dinner, and it was beautiful! The weather was perfect, and it just felt so great to have a few days to ourselves.

Saturday morning, J and I were enjoying some waffles (complete with peanut butter + syrup … mmmm), while our cat, Bill, was relaxing in his favorite spot! I’m not sure how or why we ended up with the weirdest of weird when it comes to our animals. Our cat loves to lay under baskets, blankets, pillows … I’m not quite sure why, but it makes me laugh. I took a break from eating so I could take a couple photos of our mini lion in his den. Whatever the reason, I love the weird. Maybe mini-life lesson of the day: It doesn’t matter if others think you’re weird … just do what you love! At least you’ll be happier at the end of the day!

Look at our fur ball … he barely fits under a laundry basket. So chubba-licious!

Oh, I guess I should note that we let him out soon after breakfast … I am sure he would have stayed there all day if we would have let him!

#45 & The Start of Something New

By Ravyn Stadick

Most of the items on my 101 in 1001 list take work on my part. Whether that be traveling some place exciting, or trying something new … I’m the one that had to do it. Number forty five was a little different … It was the one on the list that took other people to accomplish it! “Win a Photography Contest”. I was so excited when I found out that one of my images had been entered into a photography contest on A Nerd Like Me‘s blog. Evan is one of the coolest internet friends I know … I would consider her a real life friend too, even though we’ve never met in person … just here on this schnazzy little thing known as the internet.

So yeah, thanks to all of you, I won the contest. I have never even one a game of BINGO in my life, so this was a complete surprise … but it definitely made me a happy camper.

“What was the prize of this contest?”, you might ask. Well, it was a beautiful little camera necklace from China Cheries Etsy shop. I received it in the mail today and it’s just as fabulous as I imagined it to be. *Side note: Right before I opened the little package, J informed me that several people have received samples of Tide laundry detergent in the mail, which really turned out to be Anthrax … then they died. Really?? I was so excited about my necklace, but then I hesitated to open the package for .2 seconds … just in case. The hubs knows I freak out easily … guess who won’t be opening anymore mail from now on!*

Back to the title of this post … something new. Today starts 12 months of taking self portraits of … myself. I first saw this idea last year when I was looking at Sarah Rhoads blog. I thought it was fabulous, and I put it on my 101 in 1001 list. It was one of those goals that’s been staring at me. Kind of like when the pups want to go outside. They just sit there … stare at you … and you don’t make eye contact! Once I saw how creative fellow Indiana photographer, Gail Werner, got with her self-portrait project, I decided that I can do it! Thanks Gail … I’d say you officially helped me get my butt in gear!

If you take a visit to an art museum, chances are you’ll see self portraits of many artists (even those old school folks). The way I see it, life is not slowing down any. I want to remember what I was like … what I loved … where I traveled. This self portrait project is going to be challenging. I’m going to try to be creative and tell a story with each image. I also think it’s important to note that it’s so weird putting my own image on my blog. When J is in the image with me … it’s easier. So yeah, I just think it’s cool. I think it will be fun, and I hope you enjoy seeing me, the way I see me, for the next 12 months!

That may or may not be my new necklace. I told you it was super cute!
